Choosing and creating a nursery theme can be extremely difficult, especially for new mothers. After I found out my husband and I were having a boy, I started thinking about ideas for his nursery. One thing I knew was that I didn’t want the typical cars, trains, or sports themed nursery. I wanted his nursery to be very peaceful, tranquil, and serene. A place that would bring about calming feelings, focus, and mindfulness – especially with typical the craziness of mommy life. I did some research and discovered that in Feng Shui, colors are used to bring different types of energy into a room, and the most calming colors are usually in the blue family, It is also said that blue can slow down your heart rate, lower your blood pressure and produce calming chemicals. Based on that, I decided to pick soft greys, blues and a hint of green as the colors for the nursery, and as soon as I had the colors, the perfect theme popped into my mind. Every mother wants the best for their children, including the ability to dream big and not let fear or doubt stop them from achieving those dreams.
You see things; and you say ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say ‘Why not?’

I want nothing more than for my precious baby boy, Phoenix, to “DREAM BIG” and that is the theme of his nursery. I started searching for cloud decor on Pinterest because I thought it would add a nice dreamy element. I found some clouds that linked to an Etsy store, but they were ridiculously overpriced, so I went to the one person I know who can make anything. Yes, anything. If you know me, you know that person is my mom. She is amazing and I can always count on her for help with craft or DIY projects. Together we created the clouds that were selling online for a fraction of the price, and they turned out great. If you are interested in how we made the clouds, let me know and maybe we will create a DIY tutorial.
Next, I went on a search for the perfect wall color and finally settled on “Silver Strand,” a very beautiful gray with blue and green undertones. I absolutely love this color because it looks amazing with little to no natural light and spaces that are dark/artificially lighted. It works great as the backdrop for the dreamy theme of the nursery.
If you follow MyNaturalSistas on Instagram, you may remember I posted a video of Phoenix’s nursery when it was still a work in progress. Hopefully this video will give you a better idea of what it looks like.
In addition to finding the perfect wall color, I had to pick the perfect products to complete Phoenix’s nursery. Luckily, Munchkin sent some items that we really love. One of those products is the Munchkin STEP™ Diaper Pail that is powered by lavender scented Arm & Hammer baking soda. It does a great job at completely masking odor and features their patented self-sealing technology that seals in odors when the lid is closed. I can attest to it’s effectiveness as my husband and I disposed of over 200 diapers before we changed the first bag. The crazy thing is that we didn’t even have to change the bag because there was absolutely no smell at all. We even posted a video on Snapchat showing how impressed we were with the diaper pail!
Another product we love is the Munchkin Mist Wipe Warmer. It keeps Phoenix’s wipes the perfect temperature and they’re always moist due to the mister that releases moisture whenever you close the lid. We love it so much that we purchased another one for our downstairs changing area.
And we can’t forget the super cute owl-shaped Munchkin Light My Way Nightlight that we keep on his crib. The light is dim with just the right brightness which is so important to us because it doesn’t disturb Phoenix if we want to check on him while he’s sleeping.
Now if you’ve never heard of Munchkin, you’re missing out. They have great products for your little ones and we want to give one luck person the chance to win a VIB basket which includes more than $220 worth of must-have nursery essentials and newborn gifts curated by Munchkin.
One person will also win a $250 gift code to Munchkin.com so they can purchase anything they want!
