How To: Do It Yourself (DIY) Whipped Coconut Oil Treatment for Dry Natural Hair

Hey Sistas! Here’s a super easy and affordable (DIY) Do It Yourself Pre-Poo Treatment for dry natural hair! This particular treatment is actually just whipped Coconut Oil. Coconut Oil is great because it has been proven to actually penetrate the hair and reduce breakage by protecting the hair from hydral fatigue and protein loss during your wash regimen. Let’s get started!

Products Needed:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Hand Mixer
  • Small Jar
  • Spoon

The Process:

Step 1: Scoop about four spoons of coconut oil to your mixing bowl
Step 2: Add in the avocado oil and olive oil
Step 3: Add in a few drops of tea tree oil
Step 4: Use your hand mixer to blend everything together until it has a smooth, fluffy consistency
Step 5: Transfer the mixture into your jar

As a pre-poo treatment, be sure to apply it generously to dry hair. Cover your hair with a plastic cap for deep conditioning and let it sit for 20-40 minutes with or without a hair dryer, it’s completely up to you. Also, if you have time, I recommend you let it sit overnight for a more intense treatment.

That’s it! Let me know if you end up trying this treatment in the comments or in The Sistahood Forum! And subscribe to our YouTube channel to view more videos and stay updated on new uploads!

  1. This is WONDERFUL!!! I am going to make some now and put it on my daughter Logan’s hair – today is wash your hair day! I have a question for you. I have been natural for about 2 years and 3 months. Let my perm grow out and what I have noticed and that I am left with NATURAL HAIR with sorta curls. What I mean is parts or sections of my hair curls like I never had a perm and then other parts looks like it still has perm in it. Would you have any idea of whats going on? Have the perm straighten my hair so much that there is no more curl? Thanks so much! Enjoy your weekend!

  2. The whipped prepoo is the best diy I have tried since I went natural. The direction were very simple and even though I didn’t have an electric hand mixture and replaced the tea tree oil with rosemary oil the recipe was still perfect and the ingredients are still nice and creamy and haven’t separated. Needless to say my hair has the perfect slip level after it’s washed . Thanks so much for the recipe!!!!
