How To: Easy Braid Pattern For Natural & Versatile Crochet Twists

Hey Sistas! Senegalese Crochet Twists are the perfect protective style for natural hair this winter! The crochet braids look very natural and they’re versatile. The braid pattern used allows you to pull the twists up in a pineapple updo style or a high bun! The pre twisted crochet hair is also a huge time saver compared to the individual Senegalese twists I did in this tutorial. I used around 6 1/2 to 7 packs of hair for the style, but it really just depends on your preference and head size. I plan on trying more crochet braid hairstyles this winter. I hope this video helps! Enjoy!

Products Used:

  • Crochet Hook

  • Long Twists: Femi Collection 100% Kanekalon 2X Crochet Braid Pre-Twist Senegalese Max (Max)

      • hey india,
love. love. LOVE your tutorials. When you upload thenvideo for the hyperpigmentation could you post the link for us?

  1. hi, i just wanted to know how you applied the ones at the back……being that the cornrows are so thick from your hair being so long and having to sew them down…..do you wrap the braids around the entire thick cornrow or do you just strategically place them here and there……

  2. India,
Luv it! Will be my next do. Will be able to do many diff styles. I get hair bord quickly. Thx for sharing.
    BTW, I’m a natural girl.

  3. Oops (sp) I meant that I get hair bored :-)

    Question for you?
Do you know of something that softens synthetic hair? When it’s already on your head?
    Thx India
    Have a good eve.

    • I’m actually not sure… My synthetic hair came with care instructions and the packaging stated to use a leave in conditioner if desired. I haven’t tried that yet, but that could possibly work.

  4. How long will the crochet twists be lasted? I tend to go for long lengths, but your short hair looks amazing. I am finally open to that idea because of your photo. Gorgeous!

  5. Hello sistas, l really like the short braids, because they way the ends curl up helps them look more real & natural. I think your mom did a fantastic job. Please more videos to teach us how to accomplish the technique.

  6. Love both styles on you, but like you the shorter version is more manageable. I’m a middle school teacher & don’t have eons of time to get ready in the am. I’ve been struggling with my current kinky twist due to the length. By the way, you have a beautiful personality as well.

  7. Hi India! Do you wash or can you wash the pre- crochet marley twist before installation? Also, how do you and how often do you moisturize your hair when in this protective style. Can you do a video on maintaining hair with crochet twist or braids. Thank you so much! God bless….

  8. Hi India !

I live in Paris I have not found the crochet braid hair. On which site I can order this hair ?

I can only find the havana manbo twist but the result seems less natural

    Bisous de Paris !

  9. i WISH TO TALK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO ON FEB 1OTH, MY HAIRSTYLIST WEll BE DOING THIS STYLE 12 INCHES FOR ME, NOW I DON’T HAVE THAT MUCH HAIR WILL IT STILL WORK? AN WILL MENTION NOT TO PULL THROUGH SO TIGHT I AM SO EXCITED TO HAVE THIS DONE. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOU TIME, NOW SOME OF THE PRODUCT HAIR WE MAY NOT HAVE HER IN WASHINGTON STATE BUT I AM SURE SHE WILL FIND THE KIND NEEDED. IT WAS HER THAT SHOWED ME THIS HAIR 2 WEEKS AGO WHEN SHE DID MY DAUGHTERS HAIR.

  10. Those Are Both Gorgeous Especially Love The Short Ones Cause They Seem More Manageable. I look forward to looking into your other style.

  11. I love the way the short crochet looks! I feel like you, the long is just to much!! Hopefully I can find this hair at the beauty supplies by me!! Thanks for the video!

  13. I loveeeeeee the long ones but just like you, putting them up,showering, and especially the stringy frizz ing was my main issue making me take them down after 2 weeks and I really did not want to because in got sooooo many compliments. Did you have that problem and if so what did u do. I’m going to try the short look today because I love the look on you so we will see if I like on me loll. Thank u and I always watch u on YouTube.

  14. I really want to try this but I can’t find the short hair anywhere. Is there a specific store or website I can order it from?
    P.S. you are gorgeous!!!!

  15. Hello beautiful sista, I’m not sure if I missed it but can you or did you show your braid pattern. I would love to do this really soon. Thank you

  16. I love them both! I definitely wan to try out the 12 inch as I never normally do short twists. Your hair is beautiful

  17. I love the short hair and your braid pattern! Seeing your pictures made me decide on the 12 inch and cannot wait to put my braids in. Thanks for the video!

  18. I have watched this video dozens of times!!! I love the shorter length and plan to wear this in the updo style for my wedding in the islands. This style is so versatile, I just love it!! Could you tell me what you used to create the updo? Did you just bob pin it up, or, did you use something else?

  19. they are both so nice it was hard to choose, but the shorter style looked a little more flirtatious, so I really liked that; whereas the longer style looked more sophisticated.

  20. I loved the short style so much I bought the hair and I have this style now. I just want to know how you put your hair up into a bun. I always have this problem when it comes to box braids and crochet twists.

  21. Hi,
I was just wondering did the ends come like that or did you do something to get them like that and if so what was it? It looks so good and I want to give it a try.

  22. This video was SO HELPFUL! I just got my hair in the mail (no DC beauty supply had it:/)! But I wanted to know how many twists did you crochet on each braid? I have crochet before and ended up using 11 packs which was way too much. I bought 7 like your video said, but was curious to know how many twists to use on each braid to prevent it from getting too bulky looking or being too heavy.

  23. I love both long and short styles but the short one looks more natural.which of the two did you use for the pineapple updo ?

  24. In your last photo your hair is in a thinner twist than it is in the above photos. I want it long but not as thick as the first photo. Do I just ask the stylist to do that? My first time doing braids so I have lot of question also how do you wash or maintain your hair?

  25. Thanks for that video..i was wonderin how its done now I can go to my hair dresser and argue with her when she does it wrong lol …i lik u better in the short one…

  26. I love your hair. I have a hectic schedule and I’m looking for a maintenance free and inexpensive look that is also cute. I love your hairstyles, especially the shorter twist. I’m going to try to do it myself. I’m nervous about the braiding pattern, and also because my hair is naturally curly. I don’t usually braid it because the curls unravel and the braids dont stay neat. Any advice please? Thank you
